Our speaker today was our District Governor, Bob Oborn. Bob gave a very interesting, informative, and entertaining talk to our club. One of the highlights of being DG is the opportunity to visit the clubs in the District, and this year, 8 of the clubs are celebrating their 100th anniversary of becoming a Rotary Club. This year, the Rotary Zone Institute will be held in Columbus. Our zone consists of 1,500 clubs from 11  different states and counts over 60,000 Rotarians. The purpose of the Institute is to groom future leaders for Rotary.

As our District Governor, Bob has 4 main goals. The first is to increase membership. If we’re not growing, we’re dying. Second is the increase in the Youth Exchange program. His third goal is to get Rotary more involved in addiction prevention and treatment, and his fourth goal is to develop a disaster response plan wherein local clubs can become a distribution point in the event of a local disaster.

Bob also encouraged every member to contribute to the International Foundation and/or the End Polio Now fund. His talk was very well received by everyone in attendance, and we gathered for a group photo
before he left.

Terri introduced a special guest, Selran Cakir, her first exchange student who came over from Turkey. Selran was in the US for a Nine Inch Nails concert, and took advantage of the trip to visit with her host families.

We had time for our happy thoughts, and the meeting adjourned at 8:27.
