The Rotary Club of Westlake-Bay Village held its weekly Wednesday meeting on September 3, 2025. The meeting was a hybrid with 17 participants meeting via zoom and in person. President Amy Kubacki called the meeting to order at 7:30 a.m., began with a prayer and meditation, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the Rotary Four-Way Test. Amy welcomed everyone and shared club news.
Club News:
- Joe Kraft is heading up a walk team for Walk to End Alzheimer's on October 4th at LCCC. Please plan on joining to walk and/or making a donation to the team.
- Save the date, our golf outing and clambake is scheduled for October 3rd. Thanks to Lisa, Katie, and Jim for all their hard work so far. There is an electronic flyer and registration form on the website. Everyone should also have received a flyer in their email. Please register your foursome and help to secure sponsors for the outing.
- The Rose sale will take place on Friday, October 17th. Watch for an email with what you purchased last year and what you will order this year. Pat is out of town until October 16th, so we need orders in advance.
- The Friends of the Library will be holding a fundraiser at Hoolihan’s on September 18 th from 5-9 pm. 20% of whatever you spend will be given back. Just tell your server you are supporting the library.
Our speakers today are Angie Lastovka and Alison Jamieson from the American Heart Association. Angie is the Senior Director of Development, and Alison is the Community Impact Director. Their mission statement is to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives. Their vision is advancing health and hope for everyone, everywhere.
Heart disease is the #1 cause of death in the US. One in three deaths in the country is caused by heart disease or stroke. Strokes are the #5 cause of death in the US and #2 in the world. A quick response to signs
of a stroke is critical. Recognize it with the acronym FAST.

Since 1949, the AHA has provided $6.1B to heart research, second only to the government. The social drivers of health that can affect 80%-90% of a person's risk factors are:
- Clinical care 20%: access to care and quality of care.
- Health Behaviors 30%: Tobacco use, diet & exercise, alcohol and drug use, risky sexual behavior.
- Physical Environment 10%: air and water quality, housing and transit.
- Social & Economic 40%: education, employment, income, family & social support, and community safety.
The AHA is the largest and most experienced provider of resuscitation training, training millions of people worldwide each year through a vast Training Network of more than 3,500 Authorized Training Centers and more than 30,000 instructors. They develop first aid and resuscitation guidelines that are used worldwide and train approximately 20 million people annually in CPR.
They will be holding the Greater Cleveland Heart Walk on September 27th at the East Bank of the Flats.
